Run Reviews That Build Riders: Why We Record, Watch, and Learn From Every Run

There’s nothing quite like watching the run — the run — the one where it all clicked. But here’s the truth: we watch every run. The good ones, the bad ones, the just-okay middle-of-the-pack efforts. Because at Rad Rodeo, video doesn’t just record the ride. It builds the rider.
And when it’s used right, it’s one of the best coaching tools we have — for our kids, our horses, and even ourselves.
Watch It Like a Coach
We tell ourselves not to watch like critics — watch like coaches.
That means:
Look for patterns, not just problems.
Note the timing, the cues, the horse’s body language.
See the progress, even when the outcome wasn't perfect.
A missed barrel? That’s information. A wide first turn? That’s feedback. It’s not about assigning blame — it’s about gaining clarity.
Create a Habit, Not a Hype Reel
We don’t just record for the highlights. We record to grow.
After each run:
We sit down, replay it, and talk it through.
We ask what felt good, what felt off.
We help our kids see the full picture — not just the timer.
That habit builds awareness. It sharpens instincts. And it takes the fear out of mistakes because we treat every run like a learning opportunity.
Make It a Safe Space
This is huge: our kids will only keep watching if it feels safe.
So we:
Lead with encouragement.
Avoid sarcasm or “I told you so.”
Ask questions instead of giving lectures.
When kids feel supported, they’re more willing to be honest — and honesty is where real improvement begins.
Growth Happens in the Replay Room
This isn’t just about horses — it’s about our kids. Watching the run together gives them a chance to see what they did well and where they can improve. It helps build their confidence and sharpens their mental game.
We guide them to notice details like:
Timing and rhythm
Body position and balance
How their mindset affected the ride
By making run reviews a supportive, team effort, we empower our kids to own their growth — one run at a time.
Final Thoughts
At Rad Rodeo, we believe every run has something to teach — if we’re willing to look.
So we record. We review. We reflect. And we ride again — better every time.
Because greatness doesn’t come from guessing. It comes from watching the replay.
